Game Report – First win for the U14s

London Thunder Lewisham 76

Team Solent Kestrels 65

Thunder U14s played their first home game of the season against last year’s league winners Solent on Saturday at the Thunderdome. After a bad performance in Bristol, this game was an opportunity for this young team to show character. The first quarter was an even affair in which Solent edged ahead in the last minute of the period by taking an early 18-14 lead.

In the second quarter, Thunder played with a lot more energy and levelled the score midway through the second quarter with a combination of outside shooting and scoring in the paint. A run of 7-2 in the last two minutes of the period allowed the home side to take a 6 point lead into the interval.

In the second half Solent made a comeback and levelled the score at 50-50 with less than 2 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter, however Thunder managed to stay in front and led 54-50 going into the final period. Thunder went further in front in the early stages of the 4th quarter and had a healthy 10 point lead with 5 minutes remaining. Solent responded with a run of their own and reduced the deficit to 5 points, but Thunder took control of the game with a 6-0 run to claim their first win of the season.

Scorers: Shane 24, Myles 15, Ivan 13, Simeon 13, Nathanael 6, Richards 4.

Next game is on Saturday 6 October at the Thunderdome.
