King Henry School is offering an exciting opportunity for boys and girls aged between 16 –19 to study and cultivate their talent.
Come learn and play at an elite level with the King Henry School Basketball Academy and Head Coach Steve Bucknall.
An introduction from Coach Steven Bucknall, Director of Basketball at London Thunder, King Henry School Basketball Academy and former Head Coach of England u18s Men’s Basketball team:
Having left England as a teenager for high school in Boston, in 1985 I achieved recognition as a McDonalds All-American (rated as one of the top 20 high school players in the US) and then went on to play at the University of North Carolina under the legendary Coach Dean E Smith. I hold the honour of being the first Englishman to play in the NBA, debuting for the Los Angeles Lakers. Over my 16-year professional basketball career I have represented teams in the USA, England, France, Germany, Greece and Italy.
Our promise is to bring commitment, understanding, trust, knowledge, experience and exceptional service levels in everything we do. We have success in delivering opportunities and this will be underpinned by a deeper quality: belief.
Belief is often the most important benefit which young people themselves can take from their experiences working with us, which fuels your progress in education and in life.
Along with a tailor-made academic schedule, we are offering players the opportunity to play in the EABL/ABL, the UK’s toughest and most competitive Under-19 basketball competition. We are also able to offer the opportunity to compete for London Thunder Lewisham teams in the National League.
The Coaches at King Henry School have fantastic links to universities in the UK and USA and also links to professional clubs and top academies throughout Europe. If you are keen to explore these opportunities after graduating from the Academy, we would love to help. Academy players will be given the chance to develop their coaching and officiating skills by undertaking Basketball England qualifications, helping to boost your employability once you have graduated.
Playing in the highest possible level of Under-19 basketball in the UK, King Henry School is giving opportunities to talented, hard-working players, a chance to work with the current England u18’s Mens Coach and also to get a fantastic education as well as 20+ hours on the basketball court each week.
