Match Report 06 October 2018 – U14 Premier League South London Thunder vs Reading Rockets
London Thunder 62
Reading Rockets 53
In the second straight home game U14 boys hosted Reading Rockets on Saturday at the Thunderdome. Thunder made a strong start and went ahead early despite missing 7 free throws in the first quarter. Early foul trouble disrupted the flow of the game for Thunder, poor foul shooting and defensive errors allowed Reading to take a lead midway through the second quarter, again assisted by Thunder’s poor conversion rate from the free throw line.
By half time Thunder were 6 from 22 from the foul line and Reading crept ahead to led by two points at the half, 28-30. Thunder’s problems from the free throw line continued, and once again Reading capitalised on it and had a 10 point lead at the half way point in the 3rd period. Thunder responded with a 6-0 run to close the 3rd quarter and reduced the deficit to 41-37. Thunder’s momentum carried over into the 4th quarter, and after a 6-2 run the scores were levelled at 43-43. However, Reading made a run of their own to take a four point lead and force a Thunder time out with 3 minutes left to play. Thunder regrouped and closed the game with a 14-2 run, this time converting their free throws down the stretch to close the game out 62-53. A better effort in the last period allowed Thunder to win the game in the end.
